Baby, This Love I Have

Recorded in Los Angeles for Adventures in Paradise in 1975, with Minnie Riperton working alongside Richard Rudolph and producer Stewart Levine. Sessiondays identifies Wally Heider Recording Studio in Los Angeles as the recording studio for the album. The track opened Adventures in Paradise, Riperton’s third studio album, and helped define the album’s lush, intimate soul sound. It later stood out as one of the record’s most sampled songs, which kept it in circulation beyond its original release. Later artists used its bassline and feel in hip-hop and R&B, including Common’s “I Want You” and Soul for Real’s “Candy Rain.” That sampling history made it a durable source record for later producers and crate-diggers.
