Recording

Dynamic Corvettes recorded "Funky Music Is the Thing" in 1975 at American Star Recording Studio in Falls Church, Virginia. The single was issued on Abet, the Nashboro Records imprint, and was produced by Carroll Hynson and Joe Tate. Released in 1975, the track became the group’s best-known record and a durable funk break favorite. It has been repeatedly cited for its heavy drum work and later use in hip-hop sampling culture. "Funky Music Is the Thing" became a staple source for later producers, with documented samples in songs by Just-Ice, DJ Shadow, The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, and others. Its breakbeat reputation has kept it in circulation among DJs and crate-diggers long after its original release.
