Cross The Track (We Better Go Back)

Maceo and the Macks · 1975
Recording

Recorded in 1974 by Maceo Parker and the J.B.’s under the Maceo and the Macks name, with arrangements by Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker and production by James Brown. The release was issued on People Records. The track became a UK chart hit, reaching the Official Singles Chart Top 100 and peaking at No. 54 in 1987 on reissue. It stood out as a hard-driving James Brown-era funk instrumental and quickly became a favorite for dancers and DJs. The song became a major sample source for hip-hop and dance records, which kept it in circulation long after its original release. It also appeared in later film and game soundtracks, extending its reach well beyond funk and soul audiences.
