Turn Off the Lights

Turn Off the Lights

Larry Young · 1975
Recording

Larry Young recorded the track in 1975 at Minot Sound Studio in White Plains, New York, for Larry Young’s Fuel. The session featured Young on keyboards with Fernando Saunders on bass, Sandy Torano on guitar, Rob Gottfried on congas, and Linda “Tequila” Logan on vocals. “Turn Off the Lights” was part of Larry Young’s Fuel, the keyboardist’s 1975 Arista release that pushed his fusion sound toward funk, synthesizers, and vocal-driven arrangements. The track stood out as one of the album’s key vocal cuts and helped define the record’s urban funk direction. The track endured as a rare-groove favorite and later appeared on the sampling radar, including use by Groove Armada. Its continued circulation among collectors and reissue labels kept it visible beyond Young’s original Arista album.
