Recording

Banbarra recorded “Shack Up” at Track Recorders in Washington, D.C. The session featured John Cannon on drums, Lance Quinn on guitar, and Steve Moody on bass, with the record issued through Coyote Productions and Len Sachs Enterprises. Released in 1975 on United Artists, the single became a club record rather than a pop hit and surfaced on Billboard’s disco chart in 1976. Its two-part 7-inch structure and relentless break made it a fixture in dance clubs. “Shack Up” became a heavily sampled break source and later reached a wider audience through A Certain Ratio’s cover. It remains one of the most recognizable funk-disco records from the era.
