Be Alright
Zapp · 1980Recording
Recorded in 1980 for Zapp’s debut album, the track was cut at United Sound Studios in Detroit with Roger Troutman and Bootsy Collins overseeing the session. Roger Troutman handled the arrangement and production, with Larry Troutman co-writing the song. Issued as the second single from Zapp’s debut album, it helped establish the band’s signature electro-funk sound after the breakout of “More Bounce to the Ounce.” The single reached No. 26 on Billboard’s R&B chart. The track remained a go-to source for hip-hop and R&B sampling, with its groove and beat reused by artists including 2Pac and H-Town. It also stands as one of the defining early Zapp recordings tied to Roger Troutman’s talk-box era.
