Recording

Recorded in Chicago at Universal Recording Studio for the 1980 album Upward Bound. Clarence Johnson produced and coordinated the session, with arrangements by Maurice "Matavani" Commander and engineering by Ewart Abner III and Larry Huerta. The track was the standout cut on Starvue’s only album and became a prized Chicago modern soul and boogie record. It circulated widely among rare-groove DJs and later reissue campaigns treated it as the album’s defining song. Body Fusion became a sampled and covered cult favorite, with multiple later artists drawing on it and at least two recorded covers. Its reputation endured through compilations, club play, and repeated reissues.
