You Did It Good

You Did It Good

L.A. Boppers · 1980
Recording

It was cut for the group’s 1980 Mercury LP L.A. Boppers, with Augie Johnson as producer. The track appears as side A, track 2 on the original album. The song came from the group’s first major-label era and helped define the L.A. Boppers’ slick, funk-oriented sound on Mercury. It also became one of the album’s standout cuts and later drew attention as a breakbeat-friendly track. “You Did It Good” was later sampled by D.I.T.C. on “All Love,” by MC Lyte on “Like a Virgin,” and by Grandmaster Melle Mel and the Furious Five on “Internationally Known,” which kept the track in hip-hop circulation. It also received a cover by Kele Le Roc in 1999.
