All Over My Face (Female Vocal)
Loose Joints · 1980Recorded in New York in 1980 for West End Records as a Loose Joints single led by Arthur Russell and Steve D’Acquisto. The Larry Levan female vocal mix was cut at Opal Studios on off-hours studio time, with Levan mixing and Francois Kevorkian credited in later accounts as an uncredited co-mixer. The female vocal version became the club-side breakthrough of the release, and Larry Levan’s mix turned it into a Paradise Garage staple. It was quickly absorbed into New York garage culture and radio play, helping define the sound of downtown disco at the turn of the 1980s. The track remains a canonical garage and proto-house record, widely sampled and covered, and continues to be referenced as a foundational Arthur Russell and Larry Levan recording. Its female vocal mix is the version most often cited in later club histories and reissues.
