Lovely Lady

Vernon Burch · 1982
Recording

“Lovely Lady” was recorded for Vernon Burch’s 1982 album Playing Hard to Get, issued on Spector Records International. The track is credited to Burch as songwriter and producer on later discographic listings, and the album’s original US pressings place it in the Spector-era sessions from that period. The song appeared on Burch’s final 1982 solo album and sat alongside the better-known album cuts “Do It to Me” and “Joy and Pain.” It became a desirable rare-groove selection and was later chosen for a dedicated 7-inch reissue, reflecting its enduring appeal among soul collectors. “Lovely Lady” remained notable enough to receive a 2020 Dynamite Cuts 7-inch release paired with “Joy and Pain,” which described it as a club favorite and brought it back into circulation for DJs and collectors. That reissue helped cement its place as one of Burch’s more sought-after deep cuts.
