Warrior Charge

Warrior Charge

Aswad · 1980
Recording

Recorded by Aswad in 1980 and released on Island as part of the Showcase era. The original producer credit is shared by Aswad and Michael Reuben Campbell. The track emerged as one of Aswad’s signature roots-reggae instrumentals and became closely associated with the London sound-system scene. It was also used as Ital Lion’s de facto theme in the film Babylon, which sharpened its profile beyond the original single release. Warrior Charge has stayed in circulation through sound-system play, film association, and later sampling; Dizzee Rascal’s "Can’t Tek No More" and DJ Dextrous and Rude Boy Keith’s "Charged" both draw on it. Later anthologies and reissues have kept it in print and on playlists.
