Lover Man Version
The Revolutionaries · 1979Recording
Recorded in 1979 at Channel One in Kingston, Jamaica, as part of The Maytones' One Way sessions. The Revolutionaries served as the backing band, with Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare in the rhythm section and Sylvan Morris handling the mix. It captured the Channel One dub sound at the end of the 1970s and turned The Maytones' "Lover Man" into an instrumental version. Released on GG's, it sat within Alvin Ranglin's run of roots reggae productions. The track remained a standard dub-catalog title and continued to circulate on later reggae compilations. Its endurance reflects the lasting appeal of the Revolutionaries' bass-and-drums approach and the Maytones' original riddim.
