Strut Your Funky Stuff

Strut Your Funky Stuff

Frantique · 1979
Recording

The track was cut in the suburbs of Paris and then mixed at London’s Trident Studios. Jack Robinson, Vivienne Savoie Robinson, and James Bolden handled the production and arrangement, and an uncredited lead singer supplied the vocals with the producers adding harmonies. Released in 1979 on Philadelphia International, it became Frantique’s signature record and a U.K. Top 10 hit. The song reached No. 10 on the Official Singles Chart and was first charted on 11 August 1979. The record outlived the group as a dancefloor staple and was later sampled and covered, including Phunky Phantom’s 1997 house record that lifted its central vocal hook. It remains one of the best-known Philadelphia International disco records outside the label’s core soul catalog.
