Baggy Trousers (2010 Remaster)
Madness · 1980Recording
Recorded in 1980 at Eden Studios in London, with Graham "Suggs" McPherson and Chris Foreman writing the song and Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley producing the session. Released as a single in September 1980, it became one of Madness’s defining songs and reached number 3 on the UK singles chart. Its school-day lyric and catchy performance helped cement the band’s mainstream profile beyond the 2 Tone scene. The song remained a signature part of Madness’s catalogue and continued to appear on major compilations and live sets. Its reach extended into later pop culture, including a 2011 slowed-down reworking for a Kronenbourg campaign and a 2017 cover by the Transplants.
