Standing Right Here
Melba Moore · 1977Recording
The track was cut in Philadelphia during the A Portrait of Melba sessions, with Gene McFadden, John Whitehead, and Victor Carstarphen producing. It featured Melba Moore backed by the Philadelphia studio musicians and MFSB heard across the album. Released as the lone single from A Portrait of Melba on Buddah, it extended Moore’s shift into Philadelphia soul and disco. The song stalled at No. 69 on Billboard’s R&B chart and No. 53 on the Dance chart, making it a modest release at the time. The track became one of Moore’s best-remembered late-1970s recordings and has long been treated as a disco classic. It continued to circulate through reissues and remixes and has been sampled by later artists.
