Nite and Day

Al B. Sure! · 1988
Recording

It was recorded for Al B. Sure!'s debut album In Effect Mode with Kyle West handling the production. The single emerged from the New Jack Swing crossover that was taking shape in late-1980s R&B. It established Al B. Sure! as a major new voice in contemporary R&B and became the breakout hit from his debut album. The track helped bring a smoother New Jack Swing sound into the pop mainstream. It remains Al B. Sure!'s signature song and one of the defining early records of New Jack Swing. Its melodic style and polished production continued to echo in later R&B and hip-hop-soul records.
