Kuff
Shelly Thunder · 1988Recording
Recorded in Jamaica in 1988 over the Kuff riddim, with Shelly Thunder delivering one of the defining performances of her early career. The record was produced by Whitfield 'Witty' Henry for the Witty label. The single became a major dancehall hit in Jamaica, New York and other reggae markets, helping establish Shelly Thunder as one of the leading female deejays of the period. Its assertive lyrical style made it a sound-system favourite. The track remains a classic of late-1980s dancehall and is frequently featured on foundation dancehall compilations. Its vocal hook has been sampled by later hip-hop and dancehall artists and continues to be referenced in sound-system culture.
