Young MC · 1988
Recording

Recorded in 1988–89 during the Stone Cold Rhymin' sessions at Matt Dike's apartment in Santa Monica, California. The track was written by Marvin Young, John “King Gizmo” King, and Michael “E.Z. Mike” Simpson, and produced, arranged, and mixed by the Dust Brothers. Released as an early single from Young MC’s debut album, it helped establish the sample-heavy party-rap sound associated with Delicious Vinyl’s late-1980s West Coast output. In the UK it peaked at No. 95 on the Official Singles Chart and spent three weeks on the chart. The track became a durable crate-digger favorite and was sampled in many later songs, including records by The Go! Team and Source Direct. Its Dust Brothers production kept it circulating well beyond its original release.
