Informer
Sugar Minott · 1983Sugar Minott recorded Informer with Lloyd Barnes, Clive Hunt, and Sugar Minott credited on the associated Wackie's rhythm releases. The track formed the basis of the 1983 Dance Hall Showcase Vol. II set, with its companion dub Informout and later Jah Batta and Little John cuts on the same rhythm. Informer was a widely played early-1980s sound-system record and a centrepiece of Minott's collaboration with the Bronx-based Wackie's circle. Rae Cheddie recalled selling hundreds of copies from the Wackie's office in Soho, London, with copies also moving internationally. The track remains one of the defining cuts from Dance Hall Showcase Vol. II and anchors the Informer rhythm family in the Wackie's catalogue. Its Basic Channel and Wackie's reissues kept the record in circulation for later reggae and dub collectors.
