Grizzle

Grizzle

Cutty Ranks · 1996
Recording

It was recorded and issued in Jamaica on Steely & Clevie’s 1990 Punaany/Lion Attack riddim, with Steely & Clevie credited as producers. The release paired Cutty Ranks’ side with Captain Barkey’s “Gwaan Go Bade.” The track placed Cutty Ranks on one of the era’s most recognizable dancehall riddims and appeared in Music Week’s reggae chart coverage in early 1991. That gave it visibility beyond the local Jamaican circuit and tied it to the Steely & Clevie sound. “Grizzle” remained part of Cutty Ranks’ core catalog and was later reissued on anthology collections such as Reggae Anthology: Cutty Ranks - Limb By Limb. It continues to circulate as a referenced Punaany/Lion Attack riddim cut.
