A Tribe Called Quest · 1996Recording
Recorded for Beats, Rhymes & Life at Battery Studios in New York City, with production by The Ummah. The production unit on the album consisted of Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and J Dilla. It appeared on A Tribe Called Quest’s 1996 album during the group’s turn toward a darker, more uneasy sound. As a brief album cut, it helped reinforce the record’s introspective, fractured atmosphere. The track remains part of the album that defined Tribe’s mid-1990s shift into moodier, more self-conscious production. It is still heard as one of the record’s connective interludes rather than a standalone hit.
