Crooklyn Dodgers · 1994
Recording

Recorded in 1994 for Spike Lees film Crooklyn, the track brought together Special Ed, Buckshot and Masta Ace as the first Crooklyn Dodgers lineup. Q Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest produced the record for the Crooklyn Volume 1 soundtrack. Released by MCA in 1994, Crooklyn was one of the few new recordings on a soundtrack otherwise centered on 1970s music. The single reached number 60 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 32 on the US R and B chart. The track remains a definitive Brooklyn posse cut and the signature recording of the first Crooklyn Dodgers lineup. Its Spike Lee connection, borough pride theme and A Tribe Called Quest production kept it prominent in 1990s hip hop retrospectives.
