Black Moon · 1992
Recording

Recorded in 1992 with Black Moon’s Buckshot, 5FT and DJ Evil Dee. Pre-production took place at the Dewgarde Crib of Hits in New York, with final recording at D&D Studios in Manhattan. Released as Black Moon’s debut single on Nervous Records, it introduced the group and the label’s hip-hop presence at the same time. It became an underground breakout and reached No. 86 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the trio an early crossover hit. It remained Black Moon’s highest-charting single and the song most closely associated with the group’s debut era. It is still treated as a defining early-1990s East Coast rap record and a landmark release for the Duck Down/Brooklyn crew orbit that followed.
