Recorded at Redwood Digital in Woodside, California, in September 1991. Neil Young produced it with Ben Keith, and the track features Tim Drummond on bass, Kenny Buttrey on drums, Ben Keith on pedal steel guitar, Spooner Oldham on Hammond organ, and Linda Ronstadt on vocals. The song anchored Young’s 1992 return to a warm, acoustic, reflective sound after the harder-edged Ragged Glory era. It became one of the defining tracks of the Harvest Moon album and one of the most acclaimed songs from his later career. It remained one of Neil Young’s signature late-period songs and continued to appear in his live performances for decades.
