Here We Go Again
Portrait · 1992Recorded for Portrait’s 1992 Capitol debut album at Los Angeles studios including Aire L.A., Elumba Recording, Larrabee West, One Up Studio, and Trax Recording. Michael Angelo Saulsberry and the group handled the production and vocal-arrangement work, with Eric Kirkland credited for drum programming and arrangement on the album. Released in 1992 as Portrait’s debut single and the lead single from their self-titled debut album, the track announced the group with a polished new jack swing sound built from multiple samples and tight vocal harmonies. It became the group’s first major hit and peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song remained one of Portrait’s signature recordings and was later highlighted on best-new-jack-swing lists, with its sample-driven production helping define the style’s early-1990s crossover sound. It also reached a wider pop audience through a 1993 Family Matters appearance.
