A Tribe Called Quest · 1990Recording
Recorded in 1989 during the sessions for People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm at Calliope Studios and Battery Studios in New York City. It was made by A Tribe Called Quest and issued as the second single from the album. The track helped build momentum for A Tribe Called Quest’s debut album and introduced one of the group’s most recognizable early songs. Its relaxed, sample-rich production and conversational delivery helped define the group’s original sound. It remains one of A Tribe Called Quest’s signature tracks and a standard reference point for alternative hip-hop. The song has stayed in circulation through compilation appearances, critical lists, and continued sampling-era recognition.
