Daylight

RAMP · 1977
Recording

It was recorded for Come Into Knowledge at Electric Lady Studios in New York City and at Record Plant in Hollywood, California. Roy Ayers produced the session, with Edwin Birdsong and William Allen credited as co-producers. It appeared on RAMP’s 1977 album Come Into Knowledge, issued on ABC Blue Thumb, and it quickly became the record’s standout rare-groove cut. The song later drew wider attention through sampling culture, especially A Tribe Called Quest’s use of its opening groove in “Bonita Applebum.” “Daylight” became one of RAMP’s most durable tracks, with later covers and multiple samples keeping it in circulation. It also reached a broader pop audience after appearing in Grand Theft Auto IV.
