Against the World
A Tribe Called Quest · 1998Recording
Recorded during A Tribe Called Quest’s 1997–1998 sessions for The Love Movement, with lead vocals by Phife Dawg and Q-Tip. The release credits The Ummah as producer and David Kennedy as engineer/mixer. It appeared on The Love Movement, the group’s 1998 final studio album, released by Jive Records and centered on a stripped-back, album-oriented sound. The track served as a deep cut rather than a single. The song has remained part of the group’s late-period catalog and later inspired sampling, including Flying Lotus’s use of it on “Nicodin.” Its continued circulation on compilations and digital catalog listings keeps it in the group’s recorded legacy.
