Slam
Onyx · 1992Recording
Recorded in 1992 at Soundtrack Studios in New York during the Bacdafucup sessions. Sticky Fingaz, Fredro Starr, Sonee Seeza, and Big DS performed the track, with Chyskillz and Jam Master Jay producing. Released by JMJ and Rush Associated Labels in 1993 as the second single from Bacdafucup, it became Onyx's breakthrough hit. The single reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, topped Billboard's Hot Rap Singles chart, and was certified platinum in the United States. It remains Onyx's signature record and one of the defining rap crossover singles of 1993. Its shouted hook, mosh-pit imagery, and aggressive video helped bring slam-dancing energy into mainstream rap presentation.
