Code Of The Streets
Gang Starr · 1994Recording
Recorded and mixed at D and D Recording in New York City for the 1994 album Hard To Earn, the track paired Guru with DJ Premier during Gang Starrs Chrysalis period. DJ Premier produced the record for Gang Starr Productions. Released by Chrysalis in 1994, Code Of The Streets became one of the key singles from Hard To Earn and reached number 23 on Billboards Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart. Its street code theme and clipped piano led production deepened the darker direction of the album. The track remains one of Gang Starrs central mid 1990s records and a defining DJ Premier production. Its sample sources and later citations keep it prominent in discussions of Gang Starrs Hard To Earn era.
