Tonz 'O' Gunz

Recorded at D&D Studios in New York for Gang Starr's fourth album Hard to Earn. Guru performed the vocals, with DJ Premier producing and handling the group's signature beats and scratches. Released on Hard to Earn in 1994, the track formed part of the album's harder-edged response to early-1990s street violence and rap commercial pressure. The album received strong critical notice and became one of Gang Starr's defining releases. The track remains a noted deep cut from Hard to Earn and a compact example of DJ Premier's stripped-down mid-1990s production style. Its gun-culture theme keeps it tied to the album's darker, more confrontational period.
