Recording

Recorded at Future Recording Studios in Virginia Beach, Virginia, as part of the Hard or Smooth sessions overseen by Teddy Riley. The track credits also include Aqil Davidson, Markell Riley, Ty Fyffe, and David Wynn among the production team. It was Wreckx-N-Effect’s breakout hit and the lead single from Hard or Smooth, carrying the group into the mainstream during the New Jack Swing era. It reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and became a major crossover record. The song remains the group’s signature record and a durable early-1990s New Jack Swing crossover, still cited for its sample-driven production and club-era appeal. Its hook and beat have kept it in circulation through retrospectives, mixes, and later sample references.
