A Tribe Called Quest · 1997
Recording

Recorded in 1997 during sessions for The Love Movement, with Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad working under The Ummah production banner. The track's production was initiated by J Dilla and built around a sample from Towa Tei's Technova. Released by Jive in 1998 as the lead single from The Love Movement, it marked A Tribe Called Quest's final single campaign before their initial breakup. The song reached the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the album's most visible records. The track remains one of the group's signature late-period singles and a key example of The Ummah's smoother post-Midnight Marauders production style. Its Towa Tei sample and Paul Hunter video have kept it prominent in retrospectives on the group's closing 1990s chapter.
