Binghi

Twilight Circus Dub Sound System · 1997
Recording

The track was recorded for Binshaker Dub, a 1997 Twilight Circus Dub Sound System album written, produced, and performed by Ryan Moore. Sly Dunbar played drums on two other album tracks, while “Binghi” was part of Moore’s self-contained early Twilight Circus studio work. Released on M Records in 1997, the track appeared during Twilight Circus Dub Sound System’s formative run of instrumental album releases after In Dub Vol. 1 and Other Worlds of Dub. Contemporary commentary around Binshaker Dub praised Moore’s return to organic reggae-dub methods at a time when much new dub leaned heavily on drum machines. The track remains a core cut from Binshaker Dub and an example of Ryan Moore’s early analogue-minded Twilight Circus approach. It also preceded the later Binghi Riddim project, which expanded the title into a vocal-riddim cycle with Jamaican and international collaborators.
