Whutcha Want? (Album Version)

Nine · 1995
Recording

Recorded for the 1995 debut album Nine Livez, the album version followed the 1994 Profile single that introduced Nines gravel voiced delivery. Rob Lewis produced the track for Profile Records, with the single issued alongside Redrum and Me Myself And My Microphone versions. Whutcha Want became Nines breakout record and his only Billboard Hot 100 single, peaking at number 50. It also reached number 3 on Billboard Hot Rap Singles and made him one of Profile Records most visible mid 1990s rap acts. The track remains Nines signature record and a staple of 1990s New York rap retrospectives. Its Rob Lewis beat and sampled soul fragments kept it prominent among sample based singles from the era.
