Romario

Depth Charge · 1998
Recording

Depth Charge issued the single in 1998 under Jonathan Saul Kane’s solo alias, with Kane credited as the producer and writer. It appeared on the DC Recordings label as part of the Romario release. The track was a football-themed tribute to Romário and became Depth Charge’s third UK chart entry, reaching No. 84 on the Official Singles Chart. It extended Kane’s reputation for off-kilter, sample-driven underground dance records. Romario remains one of the best-known Depth Charge singles and is still cited alongside Kane’s cult breakbeat output. It also survives as part of the wider football-and-music crossover associated with his work.
