Morris Day issued the 2019 single as a collaboration with Snoop Dogg, continuing the late-career partnership that had already produced "One Night Stand." The release was promoted with live television performances, including an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The track marked Morris Day’s return to new single releases in the post-Prince era and tied into the promotion of his book On Time. It presented his classic Minneapolis-style funk to a contemporary rap audience through Snoop Dogg’s feature. "Lil Mo Funk" remains part of Morris Day’s late-career resurgence and his collaboration history with Snoop Dogg. It also stands as one of the best-known tracks from Day’s recent catalog, keeping his name active on radio, playlists, and televised performances.
