Klap Your Hands
Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez · 1993Recording
Issued in 1993 on Phat Wax Records, it appeared on Phat Beats - Volume 1 and was built as a sample-driven breakbeat cut. The track drew on James Brown and Jimmy Castor Bunch source material. The track showcased Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez’s crate-digging, loop-based production style at a moment when sample-heavy hip-hop and breakbeat records were central to club culture. Its sharp, percussive arrangement made it a functional DJ tool as well as a showcase piece. It remained a favored selector’s cut in later DJ mixes, including Tim Sweeney’s Beats in Space playlists, and continued to circulate among breakbeat collectors. The track’s enduring value came from its heavy drum programming and classic funk sample construction.
