The Jimmy Castor Bunch · 1972
Recording

Recorded in 1972 by The Jimmy Castor Bunch for the album of the same name, featuring Jimmy Castor with a large horn-driven ensemble. The session captured the group's fusion of Latin, soul and funk influences that had developed through Castor's New York club and recording work. Released as the title track of the group's breakthrough album, it became a defining early-1970s dance-floor record and a staple of urban radio. Its extended percussion breaks, horn arrangements and party-energy groove made it highly influential among emerging DJ and breakdance cultures. The record became one of the most sampled and replayed break records in hip-hop history, particularly for its drum breaks and spoken-word introduction. It remains a foundational track for breakbeat culture, DJing and crate-digging, with influence extending across hip-hop, funk and dance music.
