Pleasure · 1974
Recording

Recorded by the Portland-based group Pleasure for their self-titled debut album, the track featured the band's core lineup led by drummer and producer Bruce Smith. The session showcased the ensemble's tight horn arrangements, syncopated rhythms and sophisticated musicianship. Released in 1975 on Fantasy Records, the track helped establish Pleasure as one of the leading jazz-funk and dance-funk bands of the decade. Its infectious groove and polished production made it a favorite on dance floors and among funk audiences. The recording became a prized source for hip-hop and rare-groove producers, with its rhythm section and instrumental passages sampled repeatedly over subsequent decades. It remains one of the group's best-known tracks and a staple of crate-digging culture.
