Augustus Pablo · 1974
Recording

Recorded at Randy’s in Kingston, Jamaica, for Augustus Pablo’s first solo album, in sessions overseen by Clive Chin; the album also featured regular Pablo collaborators such as Ansel Collins, Lloyd Parks, Aston Barrett, and Clive Chin on percussion. The track opened Pablo’s 1974 debut album This Is Augustus Pablo, one of the first records to showcase his distinctive melodica style. It helped define the early Rockers sound that made Pablo a major figure in Jamaican instrumental reggae. As an early Pablo signature, it remains part of the core canon of his 1970s work and has stayed in circulation through repeated reissues of This Is Augustus Pablo. Later writing on Pablo consistently treats this period as foundational to dub and melodica-led reggae.
