Push Pull

Push Pull

Pablove Black · 1974
Recording

The track was recorded for Studio One with Pablove Black working in Clement “Coxsone” Dodd’s Brentford Road studio network. The original Jamaican 7-inch paired “Push Pull” with The New Establishment’s “Dub Rock.” Released in 1974 on Studio One, the record placed Pablove Black’s keyboard-led instrumental work within the label’s roots-era catalogue. It used the “Swell Headed” rhythm and became one of his documented Studio One singles alongside “High Locks.” The track remains in circulation through Studio One reissues and collector listings for the Jamaican and UK pressings. It represents Pablove Black’s role as a Studio One instrumentalist in the post-rocksteady roots period.
