Rebel Rebel
David Bowie · 1974Recording
Recorded at Trident Studios in London in late December 1973 and January 1974. The session featured David Bowie with Alan Parker on guitar, Mike Garson on piano, Herbie Flowers on bass, and Tony Newman on drums and percussion. The song was the lead single from Diamond Dogs and served as a pointed glam-rock farewell for Bowie. It became a major UK hit, reaching the Top 5 and helping define his mid-1970s shift in style. ‘Rebel Rebel’ became one of Bowie’s signature songs and remained central to his live setlists and compilations. Its riff-driven hook and androgynous imagery gave it lasting cultural reach and made it one of his most covered tracks.
