Queen Bitch
David Bowie · 1971Recording
Recorded in London at Trident Studios in 1971 during the Hunky Dory sessions, with David Bowie, Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder, and Mick Woodmansey. Ken Scott and Bowie produced the track. Issued on Hunky Dory, the song stood out as one of Bowie’s sharpest early character pieces and as a clear nod to the Velvet Underground. It became a key album track in his early-1970s transition toward the Ziggy-era sound. The song remained one of Bowie’s best-known deep cuts and a frequent reference point for later artists drawn to his proto-glam and Velvet Underground influences. Its reputation grew through live performances and later covers and tributes.
