Fall Dog Bombs the Moon
David Bowie · 2003David Bowie recorded “Fall Dog Bombs the Moon” between January and May 2003 at Looking Glass Studios in New York during the Reality sessions. Bowie wrote the song and produced it with Tony Visconti, with Mario J. McNulty engineering and playing drums and percussion on the recording. Released by ISO and Columbia in 2003 on Reality, it was one of the album’s clearest political songs, written in the shadow of the Iraq War and corporate reconstruction contracts. Its clipped guitar motifs, tense vocal delivery and oil-war imagery linked Bowie’s late-period songwriting to the geopolitical anxiety of the early 2000s. The track remains a pointed late-career Bowie album cut and a key example of Reality’s engagement with post-9/11 politics. Its presence in A Reality Tour performances kept it tied to Bowie’s final full-scale touring period.
