Funky Song

Recording

Recorded for Ripple’s self-titled debut era and issued as a 1974 GRC single. Dee Ervin produced the track, with Keith Samuels credited as the writer. The single extended Ripple’s run of early-1970s soul-funk chart records and reached the R&B chart. It helped keep the band visible after their earlier hit "I Don’t Know What It Is, but It Sure Is Funky." "A Funky Song" became a widely sampled break record and remained one of Ripple’s best-known sides. It was later lifted by hip-hop acts including MC Lyte and the Geto Boys.
