Ecstasy
Ohio Players · 1973Recorded during the Ohio Players’ Westbound period for the 1973 Ecstasy sessions, with production supervised by Bob Scerbo and arrangement by Walter "Junie" Morrison. The album sessions took place at 5th Floor Recording Studio in Cincinnati, Step Up Recording Studio in Los Angeles, and the Record Plant in Los Angeles. "Ecstasy" was the title track from the band’s fourth album and a Westbound-era crossover single. It reached No. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 12 on the R&B chart, confirming the group’s growing national profile before its Mercury breakthrough. The track remained notable as one of the Ohio Players’ best-known Westbound recordings and later drew renewed attention through sampling. Jay-Z used it on "Brooklyn’s Finest," helping keep the song in hip-hop circulation.
