We're Doin' It (The Thang) Part 1

Recorded in New Orleans by The Soul Finders, the group led by drummer Zigaboo Modeliste before its evolution into The Meters. The session featured the tight rhythm-section interplay that became a hallmark of the city's funk sound. Released in 1970, the single captured the transition from late-1960s R&B into the stripped-down rhythmic approach that defined New Orleans funk. Its infectious groove earned lasting attention among collectors and DJs despite limited mainstream chart impact. The recording became highly regarded within rare-groove and breakbeat circles and has been sampled by hip-hop producers. It is recognized as an important precursor to the work Modeliste and other members later produced with The Meters.
