Recording

Recorded by the Ohio Players during the sessions for their Westbound album Pleasure and issued as a 1972 single on the label. Released as a breakthrough crossover hit, the track reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart, helping establish the group as a major funk act in the early 1970s. Its high-pitched, lead-synth hook became one of funk’s most recognizable riffs and a foundational hip-hop sample source, notably used by N.W.A (“Dopeman”) and Dr. Dre (“Let Me Ride”).
