Humpty Dump, Part 1
The Vibrettes · 1973Recording
Recorded in 1973 by Detroit-based female vocal group The Vibrettes and released as a two-part funk single. The session was built around a hard rhythm-section groove, call-and-response vocals and a prominent drum break aimed at the dance-floor market. The record was a regional funk release rather than a national chart hit, but became prized by DJs and collectors for its powerful breakbeat and raw production. It circulated widely among rare-groove and breakbeat diggers during the late twentieth century. The track is remembered primarily as a break record whose drum passages were adopted by hip-hop DJs and later sampled by producers. Original copies became highly sought-after among funk collectors and breakbeat enthusiasts.
